Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), an entity dependent on the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle, has approved and authorized the environmental improvement project promoted by the Club Nàutic Fornells to install a seawater supply system for cleaning boats at the Ses Salines dock in the port of Fornells.

The project aims to optimize vessel maintenance by using seawater, thereby reducing potable water consumption and promoting more efficient water resource management, which is especially important in an island territory like Menorca. According to documentation submitted by the club, the project also contributes to modernizing the facilities and reinforcing its commitment to protecting and conserving the natural environment.

The project involves installing a new saltwater network on the existing pier, with direct intake from the port's water surface. The system will include a booster pump, water distribution along the pier, and supply via existing service points, as well as the necessary electrical equipment for its operation.

The planned investment amounts to €15.242,21, excluding VAT, and the estimated completion time is one month. Technical reports from PortsIB conclude that the project does not affect port operations or third parties, is compatible with the Balearic Islands Ports General Plan, and does not constitute a substantial modification of the currently authorized facilities.

With this authorization, PortsIB facilitates the incorporation of solutions that allow nautical activity to be compatible with a more sustainable use of available resources, promoting environmental improvements in indirectly managed port facilities.
