The operation has monitored potential irregular charter activities and compliance with anchoring regulations, with actions both in the port and its surroundings.

The Government of the Balearic Islands has carried out a day of monitoring and inspection of nautical activity in Portocolom, within the device deployed by the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle to reinforce the control of the coastline during the summer season.

The operation focused on detecting potential irregular charter activities and verifying compliance with anchoring regulations. Throughout the day, inspectors conducted nine inspections, issued five citations for potential irregularities, and released two bulletins.

Five of the inspections took place within Portocolom, resulting in three official reports and four bulletins. The other four checks were carried out in the vicinity of the port, leading to the remaining two reports. The detected violations will be analyzed by the relevant authorities to determine whether to initiate the corresponding administrative proceedings.

The Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport, Antoni Mercant, followed the operation together with the Deputy Mayor of Felanitx, Toni Peña, and the Councillor of Portocolom, Melania Mesquida, who learned firsthand about the work carried out by the service's professionals.

Mercant emphasized that these controls allow for an increased presence of inspectors along the coastline and direct action in areas with higher activity during the summer months. “Our goal is to ensure that nautical activity is carried out in an orderly and safe manner, protect companies that comply with regulations, and prevent actions that could harm the environment,” he stated.

The Coastal Surveillance, Inspection, and Control Service has 22 vessels deployed across all the islands. The teams follow a schedule of operations in the different ports and coastal areas, adapting to identified needs and received reports.

In addition to controlling the illegal rental of boats, the device checks aspects related to navigation and anchoring, and carries out information, prevention and awareness tasks among sea users.

These actions are part of the Government's strategy to combat intrusion and illegal economic activities, strengthen the safety of users and promote a more orderly and respectful management of the coastline.
