The new infrastructure improves port services and meets the needs of users

The Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport, Toni Mercant, and the Manager of Ports of the Balearic Islands (PortsIB), Kico Villalonga, today presented the new multipurpose building at the port of Cala Rajada, following the completion of construction work on the infrastructure project promoted by PortsIB, a public entity attached to the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle. Also present at the event were the Mayor of Capdepera, Núria Garcia, and the Deputy Mayor, Mireia Ferrer.

The completion of the works, pending only minor finishing adjustments, represents the culmination of a strategic action for the modernization of the port of Cala Rajada, which allows this facility to be equipped with renewed, functional equipment adapted to both the needs of port activity and the citizen uses of the area.

The project, which involved an investment of €2,2 million (including VAT), includes the demolition of the old building and the construction of a new one that improves the layout of the spaces and services available at the port. This project, long advocated by the municipality, will help strengthen the integration between the waterfront and the town center of Cala Rajada.

“With the completion of this building, we have finished a long-awaited project in Cala Rajada, which modernizes the port's services and provides more functional, accessible spaces adapted to the current needs of users. This project represents a clear commitment from the Balearic Government to continue improving the port infrastructure of the Balearic Islands and strengthening the relationship between the port and the municipality,” highlighted the Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport, Toni Mercant.

The new multi-purpose building houses the canteen's kitchen and storage area on the ground floor, four ticket sales points for the ferry boats, various storage spaces related to port operations, and public restrooms. The restaurant and its terrace with sea views are located on the first floor.

Regarding this latter use, the administrative concession for the occupation and operation of the restaurant has already been awarded. From now on, the concessionaire will be responsible for carrying out the interior renovations and installations necessary to adapt the space to the presented restaurant project, with the aim of launching the business once these works are completed.

With the completion of this project, the Government continues to advance in its strategy to modernize the port infrastructure of the Balearic Islands, with the aim of having more functional, accessible spaces adapted to the needs of users, the nautical sector and the public.
