The Dukes of Alba project was completed this week, and the new maritime infrastructure is now operational. This project is part of the Son Blanc port infrastructure improvement plan, initiated during the previous legislative term, which involves adapting the port to the needs of current traffic—both passengers and cargo—to the characteristics of the vessels operating there, and to the safety requirements set by the Maritime Authority.

Four dolphins have been installed, two on the western dock and two on the eastern dock, with a capacity for vessels up to 190 meters in length. This new infrastructure addresses the need to improve the port's operational and management conditions, as well as the safety of vessel maneuverability and berthing.

Each mooring dolphin has two platforms, connected by metal walkways to the docks. Each platform is supported by four reinforced concrete cylindrical pylons, 1,5 meters in diameter. The mooring dolphins are located at depths of up to 20,25 meters to the east and approximately 32,25 meters to the west.

The bottom drilling work for the installation of the pilings was carried out using a pontoon with cranes and specialized drilling and lifting equipment. The piling work began on February 8th and was completed on March 28th, coordinated with the construction of the pile caps and the installation of walkways, fenders, and other mooring elements; the latter were completed in the first week of May, within the project's planned timeframe.

At the end of this month, a high-powered tug (high-seas tug) will remove the pontoon that has been used to carry out the project, thus demobilizing all the equipment and facilities used.

Construction officially began on November 14, 2022, with a six-month timeframe, finishing on schedule this May 14. The total investment was €3.145.431,52 (excluding VAT).

This action is in addition to numerous investments in recent years, both in the inner and outer port, which have improved access, boarding walkways, the perimeter fence, electrical installations, paving, waste treatment, etc., addressing the reconstruction of the step and the repaving on the dock of the south bank of the inner port, as well as the installation of photovoltaic panels on the new canopies of the parking lot of the outer port, among others.

Between completed and ongoing works, Ports of the Balearic Islands has allocated 12,5 million euros (€12.520.842,22) to the port of Ciutadella.

To this investment must be added three more projects already designed: the rehabilitation of the Colàrsega bridge and the heel of the commercial dock of the inner port, as well as the adaptation of access and expansion of the maritime station; actions that add up to 3,9 million euros (€3.911.626,40).

Thus, in total, Ports of the Balearic Islands has mobilized more than 16 million euros (€16.432.468,62) in investments in the inner and outer port of Ciutadella.
