The Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, the Andratx City Council and representatives from PortsIB and ABAQUA listened to the concerns raised by restaurateurs and merchants in the port area.
The Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, held a meeting yesterday at the Casal de Ses Bassetes in Port d'Andratx with the mayor, Estefanía Gonzalvo; the Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport, Antoni Mercant; the manager of PortsIB, Kiko Villalonga; and the manager of ABAQUA, Emeterio Moles, to listen to the concerns and needs conveyed by restaurateurs, merchants and users of the port area in relation to the sanitation works currently being carried out in the port.
During the meeting, it was reported that the planned works on the Port d'Andratx waterfront have now been completed and that the remaining construction elements will be removed in the coming days, allowing traffic and normality to be fully restored in the area.
Also, during the meeting, the possibility of postponing the planned resurfacing of the beachfront until after the summer season was raised in order to avoid further traffic disruptions and minimize inconvenience during the peak tourist and commercial months.
During the meeting, various issues related to the maintenance and operation of the port environment were also addressed, such as reinforcing daily cleaning, improving lighting and streetlight maintenance, increasing light intensity in certain areas, landscaping, and the need to provide temporary parking solutions while other work continues in the area.
Regional Minister Juan Manuel Lafuente expressed his gratitude for the contributions made during the meeting and acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the construction work. “We know that these works cause disruption and we want to apologize. It is essential for us to listen to your concerns and work to resolve the issues that affect the port's daily operations,” he stated.
In this regard, he added that "there are aspects related to maintenance, cleaning, and lighting that need improvement, and we are going to review each of the issues raised one by one to try to resolve them as soon as possible."
The works are part of the second phase of the project to expand and improve the sanitation system of Andratx, promoted by the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle, through ABAQUA, with an investment of 4,3 million euros, financed 46% through the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS).
The project will modernize outdated infrastructure, reduce breakdowns and spills, and improve the capacity and efficiency of the sanitation system, reinforcing the protection of the Port d'Andratx environment and guaranteeing a more reliable service adapted to the future needs of the municipality.
