The Minister of the Sea and Water Cycle of the Balearic Islands Government, Juan Manuel Lafuente, participated remotely this Wednesday in a working meeting with the mayor of Sant Joan de Labritja, Tania Marí, to analyze the planned installation of ecological buoys in the Benirràs and Portinatx areas. Also participating in the meeting were the Director General of Ports and Maritime Transport, Antoni Mercant; the manager of Ports of the Balearic Islands, Kiko Villalonga; as well as representatives and legal services from the Sant Joan City Council.

During the meeting, the City Council conveyed the need to revise the initial project proposal to better adapt it to the social, historical, and usage realities of these two areas within the municipality. The Regional Ministry expressed its willingness to work in coordination with the City Council to develop a proposal that strengthens the protection of Posidonia oceanica seagrass while also taking into account traditional uses, responsible boating practices, and the needs of residents, fishermen, and other regular users of the coastline.

The main conclusion of the meeting was that the Sant Joan City Council will take the lead in drafting a new technical project that will serve as the basis for redefining the planned development in Benirràs and Portinatx. This document will be prepared based on local knowledge and in coordination with the Government of the Balearic Islands.

The Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle has positively assessed the meeting and the willingness of collaboration between administrations to advance a shared solution, compatible with environmental conservation and the social reality of both areas.
